About Us:
Michael F. Cantlon graduated from De Paul University
with a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting. His early work
experience was as an Auditor and then Corporate Controller until
1983. In 1984, Mike founded Cantlon Financial Planning as the
sole proprietor. He has over 40 years of personal investing
experience in stocks, bonds, options, annuities, IRAs and
mutual funds. He also has 40 years of experience in corporate
matters: Accounting, income taxes, insurance, employee benefits,
auditing, acquisitions and divestitures, legal,
investments and personnel. Mike has 24 years of continuous operation
as financial planner and sole proprietor of Cantlon Financial
Planning.
Thomas Guyett’s financial planning career originated
from his relationship as a Cantlon Financial Planning client. His
former profession was turning around underperforming foodservice
operations. In mid-2000, Tom and his business partners made a bid to
purchase his latest successful turnaround (one that doubled sales
from $1 million to $2 million in three years). Mr. Cantlon was
advisor to Mr. Guyett's investment group. Mike became impressed with
Tom’s willingness to take on risk tempered with sound financial
judgment. The deal did not consummate, at which time Mike suggested
that he and Tom combine their strengths to add value to
Mike's financial planning concern. Already familiar with Mikes
investment methodology, Tom was a natural fit. He was a quick study in learning the
fundamentals of financial planning and portfolio management. He attained full partner status in 2005.
